The Constabulary short sword was standard issue in the 19th century for members of the English and British police and prison services. Longer, straight bladed variants, such as this example, are scarce and were probably issued to the mounted police.
760mm blade with flat spine and fullered blade. The blade is in superb untouched condition. The brass 'D' shaped guard is numbered (please refer to images).
The hilt originally is complete with its loriginal locking catch, which is often missing on other examples offered, had a locking catch that appears to have been professionally removed. Grip is of shagreen and in very fine condition.
The sword is complete with its original leather scabbard with brass locket and chape.
Probably the best eample currently for sale anywhere.
